Who we are
Household: Family Planner (“Household”) is made by Lee Squires, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. In this policy, “we” means Lee Squires. You can contact us at support@householdplanner.app.
Where your data is stored
Household uses Apple’s iCloud to store and sync your household’s meal plan, meals, recipes, shopping list, purchase history, household settings and the names members choose for themselves.
- If you create a household, its data is stored in your private iCloud database.
- If you join someone else’s household, you see it through iCloud sharing. The data stays in the owner’s iCloud.
- We can’t see, access or recover this data. Apple stores it under the iCloud terms and Apple’s privacy policy.
If you’re not signed in to iCloud, Household keeps your data on your device only.
Who can see your household
Everyone you invite with a household invite link can see and change the meal plan and shopping list. Anyone who has the link can join, so only send it to people you want in your household. Members can see each other’s chosen names, who added or changed items, and whether someone else is on the shopping list or week plan at the moment.
The owner can stop sharing at any time, and members can leave at any time. When the owner stops sharing, members lose access to the household.
Recipe search
When you search for recipes, the words you search for and where you’re searching (Anywhere, Gousto or HelloFresh) are sent to our recipe search service, which asks Brave Search for results. We don’t send anything that identifies you or your household, and we don’t store your searches. The service runs on Vercel, which keeps short-lived request records, including the search words, to run it. Brave’s privacy policy applies to the search itself. Small preview images in the results are loaded from Brave.
When you search Gousto recipes, Household also checks gousto.wiki directly for a recipe with exactly the name you typed. When you open a result, Household downloads that page directly from the recipe website, reads the recipe details on your device, and saves only what you choose to keep. The website sees the request as it would from a web browser, and its own privacy policy applies.
Widgets
Household’s widgets show information from your device, such as tonight’s meal and how many items are left to buy. This information stays on your device.
Data we collect
We don’t collect personal data. The only server we run is the recipe search service described above, which handles your search words to return results. We don’t use analytics or crash-reporting services, and we don’t include third-party code that collects data.
If you choose to share diagnostics with Apple in your device’s settings, Apple may share crash reports with us. These don’t contain your household’s content.
If you email us for support, we’ll use your email address and what you tell us only to reply to you, and we’ll delete the email when it’s no longer needed.
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites. If you choose light or dark with the appearance switch, your browser remembers that choice on your device. It isn’t sent to us.
Deleting your data
- To delete a household you own, stop sharing it on the Household screen and delete the app, then remove Household’s data in Settings, then your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage.
- To leave someone else’s household, open the Household screen and choose Leave household.
- Deleting the app removes the data stored on that device.
Children
Household isn’t directed at children. It’s designed for families to use together, with an adult usually setting up the household.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data. Because we don’t hold any of your data, most requests are best handled through your iCloud settings. If you have a question or a complaint, contact us at support@householdplanner.app. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, mention it in the app’s release notes.
